THE RIVER ESK 3 YEAR ACTION PLAN 2017-2019

The River Esk 3 Year Action Plan (2017-2019) can be accessed by clicking on the PDF below.

The River Esk 3 Year Action Plan was reviewed by the Partnership in November 2016 and was ratified at the Steering Group meeting in June 2017. It sets out a wide range of projects ranging from river habitat improvements, addressing barriers to fish migration, fisheries monitoring to wider community engagement initiatives.

Projects include:

  • Targeting diffuse water pollution in the River Esk and tributaries upstream of Glaisdale i.e. fencing watercourses to create buffer strips which will help improve water quality.
  • The continuation of non-native invasive plant treatment i.e. eradication of Japanese knotweed and Himalayan balsam from the Esk catchment.
  • Continuing and building on our community based initiatives (Adopt a stream, Riverfly monitoring, Young Angler Initiative and Salmon in the classroom).
  • Actions relating to fisheries enforcement and juvenile fisheries surveys (to assess changes in fish populations, and to assess the impact of our habitat improvement works).

  • Details of progress on all these activities will be available on our Projects page which will be updated on a regular basis. Projects will be delivered through the River Esk Catchment Partnership.

If you would like to support the Yorkshire Esk Rivers Trust in delivering our ambitious goals please visit our Events page to see what you can get involved with or visit our Support Us page if you would like to make a donation.

    Thank you.
