FREE Riverfly Monitoring Workshops
All Events > FREE Riverfly Monitoring Workshops

Thu 12th Feb 2015 - Fri 13th Feb 2015

We are running two one day Riverfly Monitoring workshops, run by The Riverfly Partnership as part of the Anglers' Riverfly Monitoring Initiative, to help monitor water quality in the River Esk Catchment.

These workshops are not just restricted to anglers, anyone who is interested in the great outdoors and wildlife are welcome.

The workshop, led by Ben Finch (Anglers Riverfly Monitoring Initiative Coordinator & Trainer) will run through how to collect water samples from the river, followed by how to identify key invertebrate groups.

Once you are a trained volunteer we ask that you help us by committing to monitoring a small area of the river. It's really straightforward - you will be allocated a site that suits you and then you collect six samples (once a month from May to October) and see what you find. There is a simple form to fill in and then you can send us your results.

Understanding what groups of invertebrates are in the River Esk helps us to assess the water quality and health of the Esk Catchment. This will help us to target our efforts more effectively when carrying out catchment restoration work.

The workshop on Thursday 12 February is a refresher for those already trained in Riverfly monitoring. Friday 13 February is a full training day for new volunteers. The workshops are being held in The Moors National Park Centre, Danby, situated on the banks of the River Esk.

**PLEASE NOTE: The Riverfly Monitoring Workshops are now full, however if you are interested in attending please do contact Alex on the details below to be added to the reserves list. We may also be able to run further workshops in the future if there is a lot of interest.**

Please contact Alex Cripps (River Esk & Coastal Streams Catchment Partnership Officer) if you would like to attend or require further details.

Please email or call 01439 772700 at the North York Moors National Park Office in Helmsley.

We look forwards to seeing you there!
